Why Sea City Museum Is Still Worth Visiting in 2026

Titanic artefacts, interactive exhibits and stories that still give goosebumps — it’s much more than a museum.

The SeaCity Museum has evolved far beyond its original Titanic focus — new permanent galleries now cover the port’s role in both World Wars, the D-Day embarkations, and the post-war immigrant arrivals that shaped modern Southampton.

The interactive Titanic section remains powerful, but the real gem is the “Above and Below” exhibition — combining archaeology from the docks with stories from crew families still living in the city.

Free audio guides in multiple languages, regular talks by local historians, and a rooftop view over the docks make it a half-day well spent.

Whether you’re a history buff or just want a deeper connection to the city, this place still delivers.

For something more intimate, The Joiners still delivers legendary pub gigs, while Heartbreakers and Platform Tavern host emerging local talent almost every weekend.

Don’t sleep on the free sessions at The Art House Café or The Hobbit — proper grassroots music that feels like discovering something special.

Southampton’s live scene is alive and kicking — there’s something on almost every night of the week.

Southampton’s Forgotten Tunnels – Myth or Reality?

Whispers of secret passages under the old town... we went looking for the truth behind the legends.

Local lore has long spoken of tunnels connecting the medieval walls to the docks, used by smugglers, escaping prisoners, or even royalty during turbulent times.

Some sections are real — the Bargate undercroft and parts of the town walls still have accessible passages used during WWII as shelters.

Others remain sealed or lost — urban explorers occasionally find bricked-up entrances in cellars, but official access is rare.

Guided tours run by the Southampton City Council occasionally open safe areas — well worth booking if you’re into hidden history.

Whether myth or partial truth, these stories remind us how layered this city really is.

Southampton’s Best Rooftop Views in 2026

From the Harbour Hotel to hidden gems — where to catch the best sunsets and city panoramas.

The Harbour Hotel rooftop bar still offers one of the best 360° views — Solent, docks, city centre and cruise ships all in one frame.

The Oxford Street rooftop at Mettricks is more laid-back, perfect for cocktails with friends and a quieter sunset.

Hidden gem: the rooftop terrace at The Star Hotel — not always open to the public, but ask nicely and you might get lucky.

Summer evenings with a drink and the city lights coming on — there’s no better way to feel on top of Southampton.

“Sometimes the best view of Southampton isn’t from the ground — it’s from above, where you can see how everything connects.” — Joanna, chasing rooftops

Southampton’s Growing Craft Beer Scene in 2026

From Unity Brewing to new nano-breweries — where to find the best local pints right now.

Unity Brewing Co. remains the benchmark — their core range and seasonal specials are consistently excellent.

The new taproom at Brains Brewing on Bevois Valley is gaining a cult following for hazy IPAs and barrel-aged stouts.

Smaller spots like The Taproom at The Art House and the rotating taps at Mettricks keep things fresh with guest locals.

Beer festivals, tap takeovers and brewery tours are happening more often — the scene is growing fast.

If you love craft beer, Southampton is becoming a proper destination.
